LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The UC San Diego baseball team took advantage of eight Cal State L.A. errors and defeated the Golden Eagles 8-4 at Reeder Field on Thrusday night. The Tritons advance to play Chico State, winners earlier over CSU Dominguez Hills. The game will be at 3:00 p.m. in Los Angeles. Jose Navarro was the winning pitcher, going the first six innings. UCSD improves to 35-22, while the Golden Eagles drop to 32-13-1. Damian Fante had two hits and Garrett Imeson provided the power with a two-run homerun in the sixth.

Damian Fante led off the Triton first with a double down the left field line, extending his hitting streak to 17 games. Fante then reached third on a wild pitch. John Roth then singled up the middle, driving in Fante for the 1-0 UCSD lead.

In the UCSD second, Garrett Imeson led off with a walk. Matt Cantele the reached on catchers' interference to put two on with no outs. Jonathan Erickson then reached on an error to load the bases with no outs. After a pop out and a strike out, Fante singled up the middle for one RBI, as the Triton runner was thrown out at third before the second run as UCSD led 2-0 through two.

In the top of the third, Felipe Gallo led off with a double. Jose Navarro then pitched out of it with no damage, recording a strikeout and two groundouts.

With two outs in the UCSD third, David Morehead doubled off the left field wall. Imeson then lined a shot through the right side that was misplayed by the CSULA first baseman and Morehead came around to score the unearned run as UCSD went ahead 3-0.

CSULA's Jacob Ferris and Jeff Carroll led off with back-to-back singles in the fourth. With one out, CSULA loaded the bases, Tommy Horning singled for an RBI. A sac fly by Gallo brought CSULA within 3-2. UCSD got out of the inning without further damage.

CSULA took the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run homerun by R.J. Brown, 4-3.

In the UCSD fifth, Scott Clement reached on an error and Morehead and Imeson drew walks to load the bases with no outs. With one out, Erickson drew a walk to tie the game at 4-4 as the bases remained full of Tritons. The inning ended on a double play as the score remained 4-4 through five.

After a shutdown top half of the sixth, Josh Tanner led off the Triton sixth with an infield single and advanced to second on Fante's sac bunt. John Roth walked then walked. Clement the reached on an error and both runners would come around to score on a throwing error and recieving error, three errors on the play officially and UCSD led 6-4 with Clement on second. With two outs, Imeson homered to left field, driving in two as UCSD went ahead 8-4.

T.C. Geach pitched the final three innings of shutout ball for the save.

UCSD faces Chico State on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Reeder Field in Los Angeles. The winner advances to the championship game on Saturday.
