LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego baseball matched its Division I program record with three Tritons selected on day two of the 2026 MLB Draft and one undrafted free agent signing. Right-handed pitcher
Steele Murdock highlighted the group, going in the fifth round (139 overall) to the Minnesota Twins.
Shortstop
Anthony Potestio was selected in the 11th round (338 overall) by the New York Yankees and first baseman
Gabe Camacho was taken in the 18th round (534 overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals. Additionally, righthander
Devon King agreed to an undrafted free agent contract with the Toronto Blue Jays.
After redshirting his freshman season in 2024, Murdock recorded a 5.37 career earned run average in two seasons in La Jolla. He collected 146 strikeouts compared to 72 walks in 119.0 innings with a 5-6 record. Opponents hit .267 against him in 30 appearances with 23 starts, one save and one complete game.
Murdock was a 2026 All-Big West Honorable Mention after an impressive season as UC San Diego's Friday starter, ranking first in the Big West and 21st nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (12.65). The Herriman, Utah native set the Tritons' all-time single game record with 17 strikeouts at UC Santa Barbara (April 10). He became the first Triton in Division I and fourth all-time to reach 100 strikeouts in a single season, finishing with 104 for the program's D-I single season record.
In the Tritons' opening game of the Big West Championship, Murdock pitched an eight-inning complete game against Cal Poly, allowing just one run on three hits with 11 strikeouts in his final collegiate appearance. Murdock will join UC San Diego's 2025 draftee

Potestio was a two-time All-Big West selection, earning a spot on the First Team as a junior in 2026. The Brentwood, Calif. native was also a two-time Big West Spring All-Academic honoree and appeared on the Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll all three seasons.
Potestio finished with a .315 career batting average in three seasons with the Tritons, recording a .453 slugging percentage and .435 on base percentage. He tallied 73 RBI and 109 runs scored with 146 hits (25 doubles, three triples and 11 home runs), making 119 starts at shortstop. Potestio led the team in batting average (.298) and on base percentage (.431) as a junior in 2026, ranking second in the Big West in walks (35), fourth in stolen bases (12), fifth in on base percentage and seventh in runs scored.
Camacho was a two-time All-Big West First Team selection for the Tritons, as well as a 2024 WCC All-Freshman honoree at Pacific. Additionally, he was selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team in 2025 and named to the 2026 Big West Championship All-Tournament Team.
In two seasons in La Jolla, Camacho recorded a .284 batting average, .563 slugging percentage and .427 on base percentage. The Encinitas native set the Tritons' Division I single season home run record with 16 home runs in 2026. Camacho tallied 95 RBI and 92 runs scored with 106 hits (25 doubles, five triples and 23 home runs), making 99 starts primarily at first base. As a junior in 2026, Camacho led the Big West in home runs, RBI (54), runs scored (51) and hit by pitch (27), ranking fifth in slugging percentage (.576) and sixth in OPS (.979).
King was a Big West Spring All-Academic honoree in 2026 and three-time Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll selection. In three seasons, King recorded a 5.21 ERA and collected 72 strikeouts compared to 36 walks in 65.2 innings with a 3-0 record. Opponents hit .241 against him in 54 appearances out of the bullpen with five saves. The Imperial Beach, Calif. native had a strong junior season in 2026, with a 3.48 ERA and three saves. He held opponents to a .197 average in a career-high 33.2 innings of work.
UC San Diego has now had seven Tritons be selected in the MLB Draft in the program's Division I era, with the trio of Murdock, Potestio and Camacho joining
Matthew Dalquist, Ryan Forcucci, Matt Halbach and Izaak Martinez. The UC San Diego baseball program has had 30 scholar-athletes selected in the MLB Draft since 1974, with Forcucci as the highest pick after being taken by the Houston Astros in the third round (101 overall).
