LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the season with a 170-90 loss on both the men's and women's side against Utah. On the women's side, Emily Harlan won the 100 free with a time of 53.69, topping teammate Shannon Simonds time of 53.90, giving UCSD a 1-2 finish in the sprint event. The UCSD women also won the 400 free relay. Aubrey Panis, Simonds, Susan Bell and Harlan finished with a time of 3:35.42. On the men's side, Kelvin Le won the 100 fly with a time of 51.38, while the men's 400 free relay team of Artur Kubalski, Todd Langland, Devin Ancona and Dan Perdew won with a time of 3:13.29.
Other Triton top times included Andrea Lippin in the 1000 free at 10:35.61 and Simonds in the 200 free at 1:56.47. Susan Bell swam the 100 back at 1:00.31 and Karla Holman finished second in the 200 fly at 2:06.86. Harlan finished second in the 50 free at 24.35 while Kendall Bohn finished second in the 200 breast at 2:25.71.
On the men's side, the Triton medley relay team of Ancona, Jake Dong, Jesse Marin and Tim Fuller raced to a time of 1:35.85, just .02 off the Utah winning time. Ancona finished second in the 100 back with a time of 53.48 and Le finished second in the 200 fly at 1:54.87. Tim Fuller placed second in the 50 free at 21.46 and 100 free at 46.97, while Andrew Skewes finished second in one-meter diving.
UCSD is back in action on Satuday, Nov.4 when it travels to UC Santa Barbara. The meet is slated for a 10:00 a.m. start.
