Boehlke and Egeland Earn Big West Swimmer of the Year Honors

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Following their dominant performances at Big West Swimming and Diving Championships, Eva Boehlke was named the women's Swimmer of the Year, and Landon Egeland was named the men's Freshman Swimmer of the Year, as announced by the Big West conference on Friday, Feb. 20.

Junior Eva Boehlke topped three individual events during the four-day championship, accompanied by one gold medal in the 400 Medley Relay. Boehlke was the first swimmer in the nation to punch her ticket to the NCAA's, auto-qualifying with her time in the 200 IM (1:57.43), simultaneously setting a Big West meet and UC San Diego program record. Boehlke also took the top spot in the 200 Backstroke, setting another meet and program record, replacing her previously set record from the 2025 conference championships. Boehlke also claimed the gold in the 100 Butterfly with a 52.79; just .2 seconds shy of the Big West meet record set in 2000. In the 400 Medley Relay Boehlke led off for UC San Diego with Chloe Braun, Asia Kozan, Madison O'Connell following. The relay team set a third Big West meet record as well as a program record for the Tritons.

Freshman Landon Egeland captured one event title at the championships, finishing third in another and third in the 800 Freestyle Relay. Egeland outpaced his competitors with a 4:20.89 claiming the 500 Freestyle and setting a Big West meet record in the process, breaking the 1999 record by over two seconds. He also took home a bronze medal in the 1650 Freestyle, swimming a 15:24.33. Egeland led off his relay team, consisting of Aidan Rikic, Luigi Franco, and William Seymour, to aid the Tritons in a third-place finish in the 800 Freestyle Relay (6:30.21).

Junior Asia Kozan was honored with the Big West women's West Swimmer of the Year title last year. Boehlke's award makes it the second year, out of two eligible, that a UC San Diego swimmer has been recognized with this honor.

UP NEXT
UC San Diego will attend the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga. on Feb. 28 and March 1 to compete in a Last Chance meet before the NCAA DI Swimming & Diving Championships.
