SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. ?The 6th-ranked UC San Diego baseball team used a nine-run eighth-inning to defeat Cal State San Bernardino 13-1 on Friday afternoon at Arrowhead Credit Union Park. Brandon Gregorich provided much of the offensive spark with two doubles, a triple and four RBI. Ryland MacFadyen earned his first win as a Triton, going 5.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit as starting pitcher Matt Rossman exited the game with an injury. The Tritons had 15 hits on the day, while the Coyotes only managed five hits. With the win, the Tritons improve to 28-11, 22-8 California Collegiate Athletic Association, while the Coyotes drop to 19-21, 13-16 CCAA.
Leading 1-0 through six innings, the Tritons broke through with three runs in the seventh as Nick Burke and Vance Albitz had RBI.
Leading 4-0 through seven innings, the Tritons broke the game open with nine runs on nine hits in the eighth. Garrett Imeson, Gregorich and Tim Mort hit back-to-back-to-back doubles while Gregorich would also have a bases-loaded double and three more RBI in the inning as the Tritons had their 13 runs in the game.
Rossman got the start for the Tritons and went 3.1 innings, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out four before leaving the game with an injury. MacFadyen went the final 5.2 innings, allowed one run on one hit for the win.
For the Tritons, Josh Tanner extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a three-hit game and Robert Sedin had two hits. Tim Mort had his second consecutive 2-for-4 game.
With the series tied at 1-1, the teams will face each other at Triton Baseball Field on Saturday, with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch of the first game is set for 12:00 p.m. in La Jolla.
