No. 6 UCSD Swept By Cal State Dominguez Hills At Toro Field

LA JOLLA, Calif.  ?The 6th-ranked UC San Diego baseball team dropped two games to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon at Toro Field.  After taking a 5-0 lead in the first game, UCSD was unable to build on it and saw the Toros chip away and score eight unanswered runs the rest of the way to hand UCSD an 8-5 loss.  Game two was tied at 1-1 late but the Toros scored four runs in the sixth to take the 5-1 win.  The losses drop UCSD to 27-10, 21-7 California Collegiate Athletic Association, while the Toros improve to 27-18, 16-12 CCAA.

Sean Greer took the loss for the Tritons in the first game, falling to 6-1 on the season.  Trevor Decker pitched well in the second game until running into trouble in the sixth inning.  Decker drops to 5-2 on the year.

After Brandon Gregorich was hit by a pitch and Tim Mort walked, with one out, Kellen Lee hit his team leading seventh homerun of the year, a three-run blast to center field to get the Tritons off to a quick 3-0 lead in the second inning.

With the Tritons leading 4-0, Robert Sedin led off the UCSD fourth with a solo homerun to left field, his first of the season and UCSD went ahead 5-0.

The Toros put the first two runners on in the fourth inning with clean up hitter Jon Alia at the plate.  Josh Tanner was able to snag the line drive by Alia and fire to second base for a double play.  St. John was able to get out of the inning, keeping the Toros scoreless.

CSUDH scored two runs in the fifth inning on a balk and a sac fly to pull within 5-2.

The Toros would then score one in the sixth, three in the seventh and two more in the eighth to pull away for the 8-5 win.

In the second game with the score tied at 1-1 in the sixth, CSUDH broke through for four runs and complete the sweep on Saturday afternoon.

UCSD is back in action next week with a home-and-home series against Cal State San Bernardino.  The single games on Thursday and Friday will be played in San Bernardino while the doubleheader on Saturday will be held at Triton Baseball Field.
