PHOENIX, Ariz.  ?The UC San Diego men's tennis team earned two wins in Phoenix after the first day of the President's Day Invitational, hosted by Grand Canyon.  The Tritons began the day by defeating Western New Mexico by an 8-1 score as Kazumi Negishi and Chapman Chan won both their singles and doubles matches.  UCSD also won its evening match-up against Colorado State Pueblo by an 8-1 margin.  UCSD lost at the No. 1 doubles spot but won every other match.  Negishi was again a multiple winner, winning both this doubles match with Erik Elliott and earning a 6-2, 6-2 singles win.

In UCSD's 8-1 win over WNMU, Chan and Armaun Emami won at No. 1 doubles 9-7 while Negishi and Elliott won at No. 2doubles 8-6.  Ramesh Thondapu and Jake Fellow lost their doubles match by an 8-4 score.

In singles action against WNMU, Negishi won 7-6, 6-0 while Chan won 6-3, 6-2.  Vincent Nguyen won at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-0 while Naveen Dixit won at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-0.  Fellow won at No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-2 and William McCall won at No. 6 6-3, 6-2.

In the 8-1 win over CSP, the Tritons lost at No. 1 doubles as Chan and Emami fell 8-4.  Negishi and Elliott won 8-6 and Thondapu and Fellow won 8-0.

In singles action, Negishi won 6-2, 6-2 while Chan won 5-2, retired.  Nguyen won at No. 3 7-5, 6-2 and Dixit won 6-1, 6-1.  At No. 5 singles, Samuel Ling won 6-4, 6-3 and Eric Mendonsa won 6-0, 6-0.

UCSD is back in action tomorrow against Abilene Christian at 9:30 a.m.
