Tritons Shut Out by UC Irvine

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The UC San Diego men's tennis team (9-14) fell to the University of California, Irvine (13-7) with a final score of 0-4 on Saturday at the Northview Tennis Courts. The Tritons secured a win at the No. 1 doubles position but were unable to capture any singles matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego dropped the doubles point to the Anteaters after splitting sets at No. 1 and 3. Abhinav Chunduru and Trevor Nguyen secured a 6-3 victory at No. 1. However, Yaron Guberman and Oliver Worth fell 6-1 at No. 3 doubles, and Andrew Beceiro and Prathinav Chunduru were edged out 7-6(2) at No. 2 doubles.
 
In singles play, Worth faced a tough match at No. 1 singles, finishing with a 6-2, 6-2 loss. David Adamson played a competitive first set at No. 6 singles but ultimately fell 7-6(3), 6-0. Nguyen's match at No. 3 singles concluded with a 6-1, 6-4 result and UC Irvine clinched the match.
 
The Tritons were unable to secure the win, with several singles matches left unfinished. At No. 2 P. Chunduru led one set 7-6(3), 0-1 when the dual match was concluded. A. Chunduru was left unfinished in the second set trailing 5-7, 1-2 on No. 4. Guberman led 6-4, 3-2 but the match at No. 5 was also left unfinished.

Tomorrow, April 19, the Tritons host their final regular season game against Hawai'i at 2 p.m. Senior recognition for the Tritons' four graduating scholar-athletes will follow the match on Northview Tennis Courts.
