SAN DIEGO – UC San Diego (10-15) topped UC Riverside (2-20) 4-0 in an opening round shut out Wednesday at Barnes Tennis Center. The Tritons clinched the doubles point and found singes wins at No. 2, 4, and 5.

UC San Diego captured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and 3 courts.
Andrew Beceiro and
Prathinav Chunduru had a decisive win at No. 2, 6-1. At No. 3,
Oliver Worth and
Yaron Guberman edged out their opponent 6-4. The match at No. 1, with
Trevor Nguyen and
Abhinav Chunduru was left unfinished where they led 6-5.

In singles, Guberman battled quickly through a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5. A. Chunduru was next to finish with another decisive victory coming at No. 4, 6-2, 6-0. P. Chunduru clinched the match in straight sets with a tight second-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 7-6(7).

In unfinished matches, Adamson battled back in his first set from a 0-3 deficit to a 6-4 win, he dropped the second 4-6 and was left unfinished 1-1 in the third. Worth was down three sets, also fighting back, forcing his first set score to a 5-7 loss, winning the second 6-2, and trailing 1-2 when his match was halted. Nguyen at No. 4 forced a close match going into the third, 2-6, 6-4, 4-5 when the Tritons clinched.

Tomorrow, Thursday, April 23 the Tritons will face Cal Poly at 1 p.m. for the quarterfinals of the Big West Championship. The match will be held at Barnes Tennis Center. Admission to the match is free.
