LA JOLLA, Calif. — Three UC San Diego men's tennis players have been awarded with end-of-season Big West honors, which are voted on by the conference's head coaches.

Abhinav Chunduru and
Trevor Nguyen are on the All-Big West First Team for doubles. Nguyen and
Prathinav Chunduru are Honorable Mention selections for singles.

Abhinav Chunduru and Nguyen appeared in 25 of the Tritons' 26 matches together, including 19 at No. 1 doubles. The duo had a 14-7 record on the year and were 4-1 in Big West matches, all of which were in the No. 1 spot. They were the Tritons' most consistent lineup pairing and led the team in both total victories and winning percentage in doubles matches. They are also the first pair in program history to earn All-Big West First Team honors in doubles.

Prathinav Chunduru finished with an 8-11 singles record across No. 1, 2 and 3. He primarily spent time on court two, where he appeared in every Big West match. He finished the year tied for the most wins on the team and second in winning percentage.

Nguyen finished with a 6-10 singles record across No. 2, 3 and 4. He primarily spent time on court three, where he appeared in every Big West match. He finished the year third on the team in both total wins and winning percentage.

All three Tritons are freshmen. Nguyen is a native of Huntington Beach, California, who is majoring in molecular and cellular biology. The Chunduru twins are from Plano, Texas, and are both majoring in data science.

Nguyen and
Prathinav Chunduru are the only two Tritons to appear in all 26 matches this season. Chunduru is the only one to play both doubles and singles in every match.

The Tritons finished the year 10-16, marking their most wins and best winning percentage in Division I. The team was the six seed at The Big West Championship, defeating UC Riverside in the opening round before falling to Cal Poly in the quarterfinals.

UC San Diego now has 10 All-Big West singles selections and six All-Big West doubles selections all-time. The Tritons joined the conference ahead of the 2021 season as part of the move to Division I.
