LA JOLLA, Calif. — UC San Diego men's tennis head coach, Timmer Willing announced he was stepping down from the position Wednesday after leading the Tritons for the past 14 seasons.
 
"I am grateful for an incredible 25 years in San Diego," Willing said. "Everybody on staff has always been so supportive and committed to creating a good environment. I really enjoyed being around an entire athletic community that cared so much about what they did. While I am looking forward to being closer to family, I am still watching from a distance. I will always be a Triton. I will always root for all of our teams and I cannot wait to watch everybody be successful."
 
Willing became head coach of the program for the 2012-13 season, prior to that he served as the Tritons assistant coach from 2002-12.
 
Tritons associate head coach Jake De Vries will serve as interim head coach.
 
UC San Diego has initiated a national search to fill the head coach role.
