TURLOCK, Calif. ? The 12th-ranked UC San Diego baseball team defeated Cal State Stanislaus 13-2 on Sunday afternoon in Turlock. With the win, UCSD moves into second-place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, improving to 31-8, 15-5 CCAA while the Warriors drop to 25-13, 17-7 CCAA. The Tritons broke open a scoreless game in the fourth inning, sending 14 batters to the plate. UCSD would score 10 runs on eight hits in the inning and cruise to the win. Starting pitcher Trevor Decker (4-0) did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. Decker, who becomes just the seventh pitcher in Triton history to record 20 career wins, allowed just three hits and one run in seven innings of work.
Vance Albitz was one of three Tritons with multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with 2 RBI. Evan Kehoe went 2-for-6 with 2 RBI, Tim Mort went 4-for-5 with 2RBI and Nick Burke went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI. Chris Franco went 1-for-1 and walked four times.
In the fourth inning, Franco led off with a walk, followed by Imeson, Mort and Burke with consecutive singles. Kyle Saul and Albitz followed with RBI singles. After Matt Cantele was walked to load the bases, Kehoe hit a double to left field, good for two RBI. After Franco drew his second walk of the inning, Imeson recorded his second single of the inning, driving in two more RBI. Tim Mort would add an RBI single, also his second of the inning and Burke hit a sac fly for the Tritons' 10th-run of the frame.
The Tritons added an unearned run in the sixth and Chris Hom and Albitz recorded RBI in a two-run ninth for UCSD's 13 runs.
After Decker went the first seven innings, Nick Rodieck and Tim Strombel came on to pitch the final two innings.
UCSD is back in action next week when it returns home to face Chico State on Friday. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. at Triton Baseball Field.
