LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego men's tennis team posted a 5-4 victory over visiting Azusa Pacific University on Saturday afternoon at the Northview Tennis Courts.

With the victory the Tritons improve to 1-0 on the season while dropping the NAIA powerhouse, APU, to 2-1 on the season. The Cougars defeated UC Riverside by a 5-2 score in their season opener before handing Occidental an 8-1 loss.

The difference in the match came in doubles action as the Tritons swept all three matches. Eric Rubens and Blake Meister posted an 8-3 victory at the top spot while Seth Spector and Steven Oechel won by an 8-5 score at the No. 2 place on the ladder. Bijan Moallemi and Kazumi Negishi teamed up for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Moallemi picked up a 6-7, 7-6 and 6-2 victory over Patrick Kur at the No. 2 spot to secure the victory while fellow newcomer, Brandon Low, posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ronald Chow at the No. 5 singles match.

Head coach Eric Steidlmayer's team returns to action one week from today, traveling for a 1 p.m. match on February 10 at UC Riverside. The next time the Tritons play at home will be on Sunday, February 11, hosting Cal Poly Pomona at 1 p.m. at the Northview Tennis Courts.
