SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. ? The UC San Diego men's tennis team made it a clean sweep of Division I teams at the Cal Poly Invitational with its 4-3 victory over Nevada on Sunday morning at the Cuesta Junior College Tennis Courts. With the victory the Tritons improve to 4-1 on the season while dropping the Wolfpack to 4-3.
The Tritons, who also posted victories over Sacramento State and Cal Poly over the weekend, notched a perfect 3-0 record against the Division I opponent, all of which came by 4-3 margins.
UCSD picked up the single point with victories at all three spots on the ladder. Seth Spector and Steven Oechel posted the most decisive score, defeating Guillaume Tonelli and Eldar Dzhaforov by an 8-2 margin.
Eric Rubens, Brandon Low and Kazumi Negishi all picked up singles victories to secure the team win for the Tritons. Low and Negishi posted straight-set wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots while Rubens dropped the first set by a 1-6 score before taking the next two sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-1 for the victory at the top spot on the singles ladder.
Head coach Eric Steidlmayer and his team returns home for its next match, hosting Concordia University of Irvine on Frebruary 22nd. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. at the Northview Tennis Courts.
