Tritons Finish Big West Fall Invitational

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Triton men's tennis kicked-off the fall portion of the season over the weekend at the Big West Fall Invitational. The event, hosted by UC Santa Barbara, determined the representatives from The Big West in singles and doubles at the ITA Conference Masters Championships.

The Tritons were represented in Santa Barbara by four newcomers. Andrew Beceiro, Abhinav Chunduru and Prathinav Chunduru are all freshmen, while Michael Fourticq is a transfer.

Abhinav Chunduru had the best showing of the Triton contingent in singles, advancing to the round of 16 after a thrilling three-set victory over Cal Poly's Luc Hoeijmans. Chunduru won set one 6-3 before losing the second in a tiebreaker, 8-6. He then dominated set three, winning 6-0 to move on.

In the round of 16, Chunduru was defeated 6-1, 7-5 by UC Santa Barbara's Karel Fromel. The other Chunduru twin, Prathinav, nearly joined his brother in winning a round of 32 match but fell in straight sets after losing in two tiebreakers.

Fourticq teamed with Abhinav Chunduur in doubles, with the pair falling 8-3 to a UC Irvine duo in the round of 16. Beceiro and Prathinav Chunduru were also defeated in that round. The two freshmen lost 8-6 to a team from Cal Poly.
