Tritons Finish Manoa Fall Classic

HONOLULU — UC San Diego men's tennis played two matches a day across three days at last weekend's Manoa Fall Classic, hosted by the University of Hawai'i in Honolulu. The Tritons' four freshmen all showed out with 2-0 records in their singles matches.

The freshmen on this year's squad are Andrew Beceiro, Abhinav Chunduru, Prathinav Chunduru and Trevor Nguyen. All nine of the Tritons who played in Hawai'i won at least one singles or doubles match.

Also competing at the three-team event alongside the Tritons and Hawai'i was Hawai'i Pacific. One singles and one doubles match were played on Friday and Sunday, with Saturday's action featuring two doubles matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Three of the four freshmen wrapped up their singles wins on Friday in straight sets, with Beceiro needing three sets after dropping set one in a tiebreaker. Friday's action also saw two doubles wins as Beceiro and Abhinav Chunduru teamed up with sophomores Robert Freedman and David Adamson for victories over opponents from Hawai'i Pacific.

Beceiro and Nguyen led the Tritons on Saturday, winning both of their doubles matches. All of the Tritons' pairings won matches that day. The other three groupings were Prathinav Chunduru and Yaron Guberman, Adamson and Abhinav Chunduru and Freedman and Trey Fourticq.

Sunday saw the Tritons pick up one more doubles win as Fourticq and senior Zach Pellouchoud won 6-4 against Hawai'i Pacific. The Tritons then went 6-3 in singles to close out the competition, with two of the three losses going to three sets.
