LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 14th-ranked UC San Diego men's tennis team improved to 4-6 on the season with a convincing 6-3 victory over Division I member Boston College on Tuesday afternoon at the Northview Tennis Courts on the UCSD campus.
The win for the Tritons is their first in six tries against a D-I opponent this season. The Eagles fall to 3-7 on the year with the loss.
UCSD won two of the three doubles matches as Brent Molden and Steven Oechel teamed up for an 8-4 victory at No. 2 while at the No. 3 match, Kazumi Negishi and Eric Rubens won by an 8-2 margin.
The Tritons came back in the singles portion of the match and posted four victories, including a hard-fought three set win at No. 3 where Blake Meister defeated Alex Rastorgouev by scores of 4-6, 6-1 and 7-6. Eric Rubens won at No. 2, Erik Oijala posted a victory at No. 4 and Kazumi Negishi rounded out the UCSD winners at No. 5
Head coach Eric Steidlmayer and his squad returns to action on Thursday, hosting Fresno Pacific at 3 p.m. The Tritons will then host Gonzaga University at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
