LA JOLLA, Calif. – Coming off a men's meet against Stanford, UC San Diego will travel to Riverside, Calif. to face the Lancers at California Baptist. The meet is set to begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24. This will be the last full program meet before the Tritons head to the Big West Championships.

LAST TIME OUT
UC San Diego men finished the home season at Canyonview Aquatic Center hosting Stanford on Friday, Jan. 16. While the Tritons performed well, they ultimately fell to the Cardinal, 81 to 177 points.
The Tritons had strong relay performances against Stanford. Starting the meet, in the 200 Medley Relay,
William Seymour,
Adrian Bellido,
Hunter Cehelnik, and
Zach Elian placed second, with Elian anchoring a 19.68 split. Closing the meet, UC San Diego A, comprised of Cehelnik, Seymour, Elian, and
Aidan Rikic finished second in the 200 Freestyle (1:21.16). UC San Diego B,
William Miller,
Logan Lakis,
Jacob Wang, and
Kyle Kengla, followed them in third (1:22.18).
Within individual events,
Charlie Franz and
Landon Egeland finished second (9:18.86) and third (9:22.66), respectively, in the 1000 Freestyle. In the 200 Freestyle, Rikic had a podium finish in third (1:39.01). Jack O'Shuaghnessy earned another third-place finish in the 100 Backstroke (48.26). Bellido placed second in the 100 Backstroke (55.26). In the 100 Freestyle, Cehelnik finished second (43.88).
Luigi Franco and O'Shaughnessy earned the second and third place spots in the 200 Backstroke (1:45.87, 1:46.46). In similar fashion,
Zachary Tower (4:30.43) and Franz (4:30.49) finished second and third in the 500 Freestyle. Elian finished third in the 100 Butterfly (48.20).
Shane Burns earned a podium finish in the 400 IM (3:56.94).

NOTABLE
Joining the Big West in 2024-25, the Triton women won eight championship titles and made it to the podium 19 times to take second place overall. Finishing fourth overall, the Triton men set new two program records and made it to the podium four times on the final night of competition.
Asia Kozan continued to dominate in her sophomore season earning a championship title each night of the four-day meet and returned to La Jolla with four first place medals and one third place medal. Kozan set four Big West meet records as well as five UC San Diego program records.
UP NEXT
UC San Diego will stay on the road but return to San Diego to compete against the Toreros. San Diego will host the Triton women at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the USD Sports Center Pool.

HEAD COACH MARKO DJORDJEVIC
Marko Djordjevic was named the head coach of UC San Diego men's and women's swimming programs on July 10, 2019. The 2025-26 season is his seventh season as head coach.
After undergoing the transition from NCAA Division II to Division I, Djordjevic made history as he was the first coach to send a scholar-athlete to an NCAA DI Championship in a non-open division sport. At the Big West Swim and Dive Championships,
Chloe Braun set the UC San Diego program record and Big West meet record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.14 which earned her a spot at the NCAA Championships. The junior went on to finish 20th in the nation.
During the four-year transition period, Djordjevic made history when the women's team won the university's first DI conference championship in 2022 at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation swimming and diving championships. Disrupting the Hawaii dynasty, the Triton women won the championships by 12.5 points, taking home gold in seven events. After an outstanding season and championship win, Djordjevic was named MPSF Swim Coach of the Year.

The Triton is described as the offspring of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a demigod of the sea with a lower part of the body like that of a fish. It is known as a mighty and fierce sea warrior.
