Eight Named to Academic All-District Teams

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Announced on Tuesday, April 1, UC San Diego men's and women's swim teams each had four scholar-athletes named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Swimming & Diving Teams. Representing the women are Sophia Bell, Sabrina Bennani, Chloe Braun, and Minh-Nha Kawamura, and representing the men are Luigi Franco, Colton Milne, Ryan Kirton, and Robby Griswold.

TRITON WOMEN
Sophia Bell (San Rafael, Calif.) is a sociology major emphasizing social inequality with a 3.75 grade point average. In the pool, the junior went to the podium four times at the Big West Swim and Dive Championships taking first in the 1650 free and the 800 free relay.
 
Sabrina Bennani (Covina, Calif.) is a human biology major with a perfect 4.00 grade point average. Competing in every meet this season for the Tritons, the junior scored in the 400 IM taking seventh at the Big West Swim and Dive Championships.
 
Chloe Braun (Toulouse, France) is an international studies major emphasizing political science with a 3.89 grade point average. The standout junior had a career swim at the Big West Swim and Dive Championships at which she visited the podium three times and qualified her for the NCAA DI Swim and Dive Championships in the 100 breaststroke where she finished 20th in the nation. Braun will go onto the CSC Academic All-America national ballot and will be voted on by CSC members to be a potential first-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honoree.
 
Minh-Nha Kawamura (Livermore, Calif.) is a neurobiology major with a 3.83 grade point average. The junior competed in each meet this year for the blue and gold and went to the Big West Championships as an alternate swimming in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 IM.
 
24-25 Women's CSC All-Academic

 
TRITON MEN
Luigi Franco (Vila Velha, Brazil) is a human biology major with a 3.64 grade point average. The junior competed in every meet this season and set a new program record in the 200 back at the Big West Swim and Dive Championships.
 
Colton Milne (Ottawa, Canada) is a human biology major with a 3.80 grade point average. Swimming in three events at the Big West Championships, the junior scored for the Triton men in the 200 breaststroke finishing sixth overall.
 
Ryan Kirton (Saratoga, Calif.) is a psychology major with a 3.94 grade point average. Leading the Triton men in two relays at the Big West Swim and Dive Championships, the senior helped the squads to a fourth-place finish in the 400 medley relay to set a new program record and finished third in the 400 free relay.
 
Robby Griswold (Cupertino, Calif.) is mechanical engineering major with a 3.98 grade point average. Scoring for the Triton men at the Big West Swim and Dive Championships, the junior finished fourth in the 200 back.

QUALIFICATIONS
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes swim and dive honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.
 
To be eligible, student-athletes must hold a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must have competed in five competitions or finish top eight at a conference meet. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.
 
ABOUT UC SAN DIEGO
After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West Conference in NCAA Division I. The 23-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions II and III and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors. A total of 83 Tritons have earned Academic All-America honors, while 38 have earned prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships. UC San Diego scholar-athletes exemplify the academic ideals of one of the world's preeminent institutions, graduating at an average rate of 91 percent, one of the highest rates among institutions at all divisions.
