FOLSOM, Calif. — The UC San Diego men's rowing team wrapped up the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships taking home the gold in five events and second in three. The Tritons took part in the weekend with nine crews.
UC SAN DIEGO VARSITY 8
On day one of the WIRA Championships, the Tritons' Varsity 8 started the event off strong leading the very first heat with a time of 6:05.00. Shortly behind the Tritons came in Orange Coast College and the University of San Diego with times 6:09.44 and 6:12.89, respectively.
The Tritons hit the water at 8:10 a.m. the next morning for the varsity 8 Grand Final. With a time of 5:56.309, the crew took home a first-place finish, leading ahead of UCLA and Santa Clara with times 6:00.587 and 6:03.193.

UC San Diego's second crew, facing five other boats, took home the gold following the 2V8 Grand Final. Coming in at 6:06.63, the Tritons were followed by Santa Clara and UCLA.

The squad's third boat went head-to-head with Santa Clara for a race on the second day of the regatta. Finishing just over 5 seconds before Santa Clara, the Tritons took home the trophy for the third varsity 8 race.

The Tritons added two crews to the Varsity 4+ race. On the first day, UC San Diego's varsity 4 lead the third heat with a time of 6:42.879 while the second varsity 4 came out on top in the first heat with a 6:48.10 finish.
In the Grand Final for the Varsity 4, the Tritons' second crew came out on top, followed by the team's first crew by under a second.

UC SAN DIEGO NOVICE 4 AND SECOND NOVICE 4
UC San Diego's novice 4 finished with a time of 6:45.769 taking the lead of the first heat with competitors, Santa Clara and UC Irvine, shortly behind. The second novice 4 put up great timing, finishing at 7:07.668 also at the top of their respective heat for the event.
For the Petite Final, UC San Diego's first novice 4 landed a first place finish with a time of 7:28.543. In the Grand Final, the Tritons "A" crew took home second while the "B" crew took fourth.

The Tritons' double also lead their initial heat, hitting the water at 12:30 p.m. and finishing with a time of 7:14.555. On the second day of the event, Park-Coburn and Dewancker lead the pack with a finish at 7:26.784 for the Grand Final.
