IRA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA: Day Two

GOLD RIVER, Calif. — The second day of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship Regatta saw the UC San Diego men take part in a pair of races Saturday.

The 123rd edition of the event is running May 29-31 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., just outside of Sacramento.

The Tritons finished sixth in their Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 semifinals. Those crews will wrap up action Sunday morning in fourth-level Finals.

In Saturday's Varsity 8 semi, UC San Diego, ranked No. 25 nationally, went up against No. 13 Cornell, No. 17 Temple, No. 18 Georgetown, No. 19 Holy Cross, and No. 20 La Salle. Cornell topped the field, winning with a time of 5:52.030. The Tritons came in at 6:06.300.

UC San Diego's Second Varsity 8 took on Boston University, Drexel, Navy, Temple, and La Salle. BU was the winner in 5:56.710 and the Tritons posted a time of 6:20.800.

In Sunday's Varsity 8 fourth final, the Tritons will be racing alongside La Salle, No. 16 Drexel, Temple, Oregon State and No. 22 MIT .

UC San Diego's Second Varsity 8 will go against Temple, Georgetown, La Salle, and Oregon State.

The Second Varsity 8 Final is set for 8:58 a.m. and the Varsity 8 goes off at 9:06 a.m.

This is the 10th-straight season that UC San Diego has qualified for the IRA National Championship Regatta.
