GOLD RIVER, Calif. — The UC San Diego men's rowing team closed out its season Sunday at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship Regatta.
The Triton Varsity 8 placed sixth in the fourth-level final, while the Second Varsity 8 placed fourth in the fourth-level final.
The 123rd edition of the event took place May 29-31 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., just outside of Sacramento.
In Sunday's Varsity 8 race, the Tritons, ranked 25th nationally, raced alongside No. 16 Drexel, No. 17 Temple, No. 20 La Salle, No. 22 MIT, and Oregon State. Temple took the win with a time of 5:56.701 while UC San Diego clocked in at 6:04.778
UC San Diego's Second Varsity 8 was up against Temple, Georgetown, La Salle, and Oregon State. Temple won that event as well, recording a 6:00.526. The Tritons came in with a time of 6:09.835, finishing in front of Oregon State by two seconds.
Overall, UC San Diego finished 23rd in the Division I Ten Eyck Trophy points standings. The University of Washington won the national title after placing first in the Varsity 8 and Third Varsity 8 and second in the Second Varsity 8. The Huskies were followed by Princeton in second and Harvard in third.
It was the 10th-straight season that UC San Diego had qualified for the IRA National Championship Regatta.
