GOLD RIVER, Calif. — The UC San Diego men's rowing team concludes its season this week at the prestigious Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship Regatta.
The 123rd running of the event is set for May 29-31 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., just outside of Sacramento.
The Tritons will enter Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 boats.

UC San Diego gets underway Friday at 8:24 a.m. in heat two of four of the Varsity 8 race. Ranked No. 25 nationally, the Tritons will be up against No. 2 California, No. 7 Dartmouth, No. 10 Yale, No. 15 Columbia, and No. 18 Georgetown.Â
Heat one features No. 1-ranked Washington, No. 8 Penn, No. 9 Brown, No. 16 Drexel, No. 17 Temple, and Oregon State. Heat three has No. 3 Harvard, No. 6 Northeastern, No. 11 Boston University, No. 14 Wisconsin, No. 19 Holy Cross, and No. 22 MIT. Finally, heat four is comprised of No. 4 Princeton, No. 5 Stanford, No. 12 Syracuse, No. 13 Cornell, No. 20 La Salle, and No. 21 Navy.Â
The top-three boats in each of Friday's Varsity 8 heats advance to the AB semifinals with the rest of the crews moving on to the CD semifinals. All semis will be contested Saturday.
Sunday is finals day. The top-three finishers in the two AB semis go to Sunday's A final, while the remainder go to the B final. The top-three crews in the CD semis advance to the C final and the rest go to the D final.
UC San Diego's Second Varsity 8 begins racing Friday at 9:12 a.m. in heat two against Princeton, Brown, Cornell, Wisconsin, and Temple. The semifinals will be Saturday with the finals slated for Sunday.
UC San Diego is coming off the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championship, which was contested May 17 on Lake Natoma. The Tritons qualified for the IRA National Championship Regatta via their results at the conference event.
This is the 10th-straight season that UC San Diego has qualified for the IRA National Championship Regatta.
In 2025, the Varsity 8 went to the D final and placed 23rd overall for the event. The Second Varsity 8 made the C final and placed 18th in the class.
