Triton Tuesday: Trolley Extension Through UC San Diego

Every day is a good day to learn more about UC San Diego, but we've chosen a particular one to spread knowledge with our feature called "Triton Tuesday." Each Tuesday, get the inside scoop with fun facts about Triton athletics, the UC San Diego campus and community, and our beautiful home of San Diego, California, in a Did You Know? format.

If one has been on campus over the last several years, they may have seen construction on the trolley line that goes through campus. The highly anticipated Mid-Coast Trolley extension to UC San Diego's campus began in 2016 and is expected to be finished fall 2021. The Blue Line Trolley service will run from the Sante Fe Depot in downtown San Diego to UC San Diego's campus. The goal of the trolley is to lessen traffic congestion and to expand public transportation in San Diego.

The three stops along UC San Diego's campus will be the Veterans Affairs Medical Station, the Pepper Canyon Trolley Station and the Voight Drive Station. The Voight Drive Station is conveniently located near Triton Ballpark and Canyonview Aquatic Center. The UC San Diego baseball team calls Triton Ballpark home while the UC San Diego swim and dive and men's and women's water polo teams all compete at Canyonview.

The trolley will provide students with easier access to many areas outside of La Jolla including Pacific Beach, Mission Bay, Old Town and Downtown. In addition, it will also provide students who commute to campus an alternative way to travel to and from campus.

With the trolley expected to start services in late 2021, students and others affiliated with the University can't wait to take advantage of the trolley in the 2021 fall quarter.
