Every day is a good day to learn more about UC San Diego, but we've chosen a particular one to spread knowledge with our new feature called "Triton Tuesday." Each Tuesday, get the inside scoop with fun facts about Triton athletics, the UC San Diego campus and community, and our beautiful home of San Diego, California, in a Did You Know? format.
It's no wonder UC San Diego is such a big place. With its internationally-renowned academics and position as a top research university, award-winning faculty, ideal beachside location, and now, Division I athletic program, it makes sense that discerning students have UC San Diego at the top of their list. With more than 39,000 students enrolled at UC San Diego and more than 8,500 freshmen matriculating each year, the University still maintains a small college feel.
How? The answer lies in the unique college system.UC San Diego is composed of seven different colleges, each with its own general education requirements and focus. The college system allows students to be a part of a smaller community, while enjoying access to resources and facilities of a large, world-class research institution.Â
Each college at UC San Diego features its own residential neighborhood, general education curriculum, support services and distinctive traditions. No matter which college a student attends, they may pursue their chosen major.
Regardless of which college a student attends, we are all Tritons!
