No. 7 Tritons Look for Revenge in Rematch With Eagles

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 7 University of California San Diego men's tennis team will hit the road this week to face Concordia Irvine. Their match with Bucknell, previously scheduled for March 10, has been canceled.

SEEKING REVENGE ON THE ROAD
The Tritons' only Division II loss this year was at the hands of Concordia Irvine on Feb. 12. Since then, both teams have made an appearance in the national polls, with the Tritons at seventh and the Eagles at 23rd.
 
SEVENTH HEAVEN
The Tritons were ranked seventh in the country in the Oracle/ITA Division II Men's Tennis National Team Rankings, which were released on Wednesday. The ranking is UC San Diego's highest during Head Coach Timmer Willing's tenure. View the full rankings here.
 
LAST TIME OUT

HEAD COACH TIMMER WILLING
Timmer Willing is in his eighth season in charge of the UC San Diego men's tennis program. With a dual-match record of 84-70 entering the 2020 season, he has guided the Tritons to three NCAA Division II Championship appearances.
 
TEAM CAPTAINS
Sreeganesh Manoharan serves as the Tritons' team captain, while Zach Ermert is the PR/community service captain and Neil Tengbumroong is the academic captain.
 
NEW SEASON, NEW TRITONS
Five scholar-athletes are in their first year with the UC San Diego men's tennis team. Among the four freshmen are brothers Phillip and William Lan from La Canada Flintridge. Classmate Dylan Taylor also hails from Southern California, specifically Huntington Beach. Rounding out the freshman class is Fraser Leslie, from Wellesley, Mass.
 
The final new Triton is transfer Cody Duong, who previously competed at American River College from 2015-17.

BIG WEST BOUND
UC San Diego is in its 20th and final year playing as an NCAA Division II team. In July of 2020, the entire athletics program will begin a four-year transition to NCAA Division I, culminating in full DI status as a member of the Big West Conference for the 2024-25 academic year. At that time, all sports will be eligible for conference and NCAA postseason play.
