READ ACROSS AMERICA
The UC San Diego Campus will celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2
nd. Read Across America is a nationwide movement by the Dr. Seuss organization to encourage kids to read. UC San Diego Athletics will host a month-long reading competition for kids throughout the month. Reading logs can be picked up at the Sunday game and fans can donate books that day to support local schools.
PITCHER'S DUEL
Both teams feature pitching staffs that rank in the top 20 in ERA in the NCAA. The Tritons rank 11
th with an ERA of 2.44 while the Gators are just behind them with an ERA of 2.53.
Luke Mattson has been dominate in relief for the Tritons with 27 strikeouts and an ERA of .56. Through three starts,
Brandon Weed has 15 strikeouts, two walks and an ERA of 1.80.
GETTING ON BASE
The Tritons are second in the conference in on base percentage and are 19
th in the NCAA at .432. This is aided by a conference leading 94 base on balls, good for second in the country.
Blake Baumgartner has a team high 14 while
Devon Hawks and
Michael Fuhrman have 12. Last weekend against Sonoma, Tritons were walked a whopping 42 times.
WAKING UP THE BATS
The offense came to life against Sonoma, registering 48 hits runs against the Seawolves. It helped vault the Tritons to 19
th in the nation in runs. Against Sonoma, the Tritons double the number of homeruns on the season and hit four of them in the series.
BIG WEST BOUND
UC San Diego is in its 20th and final year playing as an NCAA Division II team. In July of 2020, the entire athletics program will begin a four-year transition to NCAA Division I, culminating in full DI status as a member of the
Big West Conference for the 2024-25 academic year. At that time, all sports will be eligible for conference and NCAA postseason play.
