LAST SEASON RECAP
The Tritons finished last season 41-16 and fell in the World Series. UC San Diego played their best at home and compiled a 25-5 record. At the conclusion of the season, the Tritons were ranked fourth.
RETURNING STAR POWER
While the Tritons lose several players from last year's world series team, they do return several key pieces for the 2020 campaign. After a year of earning multiple All-American honors,
Brandon Weed returns to the mound to lead a deep pitching staff.
Shay Whitcomb, who was recently named a player to watch as a Player of the Year Candidate, looks to build upon a season where he was named CCAA player of the year.
Blake Baumgartner started every game last season and earned NCBWA Preseason All-West Second Team honors. The Tritons also return All-CCAA honoree
Aaron Kim (First Team).
HEAD COACH ERIC NEWMAN
Head Coach
Eric Newman enters his ninth season as head coach for the Tritons. He has been named the American Baseball Coaches Association Division II Coach of the Year the last three seasons. Newman holds a record of 292-158 with the Tritons and has led them to the World Series the last three seasons.
PRESEASON ACCOLADES
The Tritons were picked second in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll and third in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason poll. The Tritons were also picked first in the West Region by the NCBWA as well as to finish first in CCAA.
Whitcomb and Weed were selected to the Preseason All-West Team by the NCBWA. The same publication picked Whitcomb as an Honorable All-American and Weed as a Third Team All-American.
