Tritons Defeat Colorado Christian and Mesa State College on Saturday

DENVER, Colo.-  On Saturday the UC San Diego men's tennis team won all 18 of their matches, defeating both Colorado Christian University and Mesa State College 9-0. The Tritons began the day in Lakewood, Colorado facing Colorado Christian University. The Cougars came into competition plagued by injuries and several athletes struggling with food poisoning.  On four separate occasions Colorado Christian players were not able to compete, defaulting their matches to UCSD.

At the top spot on the doubles ladder Kazumi Negishi and Erik Elliott defeated Matthew Cooper and Andrew Wren, 8-0. Brandon Stevenson and Armaun Emami won at No.2, defeating CCU's Logan Moody and Clint Walder. In singles action, Negishi defeated Walder at the top spot 6-1, 6-0. Naveen Dixit defeated Cooper at No.2 6-0, 6-0. Triton Jake Fellow defeated Andrew Wren 6-0, 6-0 at the fourth spot on the singles ladder.

After their victory over the Cougars, UCSD traveled to Denver, Colorado to face Mesa State College. The Tritons won all three of their doubles matches and swept the singles ladder for a 9-0 victory. Negishi and Elliott won the top doubles spot against Jordan Chomko and Nick Provenza. Stephenson and Emami took No.2, and Dixit and Ling won No.3 on the doubles ladder. In singles action Negishi defeated Jordan Chomko 6-2, 7-5. Dixit defeated Rashad Khamis at No.2. Chan defeated Mesa College's Nick Provenza at the third spot. Fellow won at No.4, Samuel Ling at No.5, and Billy McCall at the sixth spot with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over William Kellar.

 

The two victories put the Tritons back over the .500 mark with a 10-9 overall season record. The Tritons will continue their road trip when they face Colorado State-Pueblo on Sunday, April 12 at noon.
