LA JOLLA, Calif.- The UC San Diego men's tennis team defeated
conference opponent Sonoma State University on Saturday afternoon at the La Jolla campus. The Tritons swept doubles play and won five out of six singles
matches for an 8-1 final score. The win brings the Tritons overall season record
to 7-8.
In doubles play the top seed of Kazumi Negishi and Erik Elliott defeated Connor Olsen and Jordan Smith of Sonoma State, 8-2. Freshman Brandon Stevenson and junior Vincent Nguyen defeated Zel Sperry and Jeremy Heckley 8-5, at number two. In the third spot on the doubles ladder freshman Samuel Ling and sophomore Naveen Dixit defeated Anthony Rollins and Scott Gaynor of Sonoma State.
Singles action saw UCSD take five of six points, with all but one win coming in two sets. Nguyen defeated Jeremy Heckley at the second spot 6-4, 6-1. Naveen Dixit won the third set 10-7 to defeat Sonoma's Zel Sperry. Chapman Chan and Jake Fellow both won 6-4, 6-0 to win the No. 4 and No.5 spots, respectively. At the sixth spot on the singles ladder Triton Samuel Ling defeated Anthony Rollins 6-2, 6-1. The Seawolves' lone win came at the top spot on the singles ladder when Connor Olsen defeated Kazumi Negishi 6-1, 6-4.
The Tritons are back in
action when they host Point Loma Nazarene on Thursday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m.
