LA JOLLA, Calif. ?The UC San Diego men's tennis team dropped a competitive 8-1 decision to Barry on Saturday afternoon on the La Jolla campus. The Tritons earned their point in doubles action as Kazumi Negishi and Erik Elliott won at the No. 1 doubles spot with an 8-4 score. In singles action, three of the six matches went three sets, with Barry winning all six singles points. Going to three sets for the Tritons was Negishi at No. 1, Vincent Nguyen at No. 2 and William McCall at No. 3 singles.
UCSD's Negishi and Elliott defeated Barry's No. 1 tandem by an 8-4 score. Jake Fellow and McCall lost at No. 2 doubles 8-2 and Armaun Emami and Brandon Stevenson lost at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Negishi won the second set after dropping the first. In the decisive third set, Negishi lost a 6-2 decisioin. Nguyen won the first set at No. 2 singles, but could not finish it off, losing the second set by a close 6-4 margin and falling in set three, 10-6. McCall nearly scored a point at the No. 5 singles spot, winning the second set 6-1 and being edged in the final set 7-6.
UCSD is back in action on Sunday when it hosts Hawaii Pacific at 12:00 p.m.
