Tritons Tally 19 Hits In 13-2 Win Over Golden Eagles

LA JOLLA, Calif.  ?The UC San Diego baseball team pounded out a season-high 19 hits en route to a 13-2 win over Cal State L.A. on Friday afternoon at Triton Baseball Field.  Matt Rossman (3-1) earned the win, taking a shut out into the eighth inning.  Five different Tritons had multi-hit games, led by Evan Kehoe's 4-for-5 afternoon with four RBI.  Vance Albitz, Tim Mort and Nick Burke had three hits apiece.  With the win, UCSD improves to 9-3, 6-0 California Collegiate Athletic Association, while the Golden Eagles drop to 11-6, 4-2 CCAA.

The series will conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader in Los Angeles.  Cal State L.A. is undefeated at 9-0 at Reeder Field in 2009.

The season-high 19 hits comes one day after the Tritons had 15 hits against CSULA on Thursday.  Albitz's homerun in the eighth inning was just the fourth of the year for UCSD as a team.

In the UCSD first, Vance Albitz led off with a single, his fifth consecutive hit.  With two outs and Albitz on third, Evan Kehoe singled through the right side for an RBI and UCSD led 1-0.

In the CSULA second, the Golden Eagles had two hits and put runners on first and second.  The runners advanced on a balk but Rossman retired the next CSULA batter on a pop out to keep the Golden Eagles scoreless.

With two outs in the UCSD fourth, Tim Mort doubled and Robert Sedin came through with the two-out RBI and UCSD led 2-0.  After Justin Robles singled, Nick Burke hit an RBI single to left for the 3-0 lead.

In the Triton sixth, UCSD loaded the bases with no outs.  With one out, Imeson reached on a bunt for an RBI and the bases stayed loaded.  Kehoe followed with a two RBI single.  Pinch hitter Nick Geach followed with an RBI double and Tim Mort hit a two RBI single and UCSD had a 9-0 lead.

In the UCSD seventh, Albitz and Kehoe had RBI singles to give UCSD 11 runs.

Eric Quintero hit a pinch-hit two-run homerun in the eighth for CSULA's runs.

In the UCSD eighth, Albitz hit a two run homerun to right as the score became 13-2 UCSD.

Elias Tuma pitched a perfect ninth for UCSD.
