No. 25 Tritons Rally In Final At-Bat In Both Games Of Doubleheader; Sweep Cal State Monterey Bay

SEASIDE, Calif.  ?The 25th-ranked UC San Diego baseball team used two rallies in its final at-bat to complete a four-game series sweep on Saturday.  In the first game, Garrett Imeson hit a two-out, two RBI triple as the Tritons won 5-2.  In the second game of seven innings, the Tritons trailed 3-1 in their final at-bat.  With the help of three hit batsmen, the Tritons rallied and scored three runs to take the game at 4-3.  Guido Knudson saved both ends of the doubleheader and now has five saves on the year.  With the wins, UCSD improves to 7-3, 2-0 California Collegiate Athletic Association while the Otters drop to 3-14, 0-4 CCAA.

In the first game, CSUMB took a 2-0 lead in the first.  UCSD scored single runs in the third and fourth, on sac fly RBI's by Justin Robles (third) and Tim Mort (fourth).

With two outs in the UCSD ninth and runners on second and third, Imeson blasted a triple to right center for two RBI and the Tritons led 4-2.  Evan Kehoe followed with an RBI single for an insurance run and UCSD went ahead 5-2.  While Knudson converted the save, he combined with Sean Greer in relief as Greer went 2.1 innings and allowed no hits while striking out three.  Starter Kirby St. John went 5.2 innings allowing two runs and striking out three.

In UCSD's 4-3 win in game two, UCSD went down 3-0 and did not get on the board until the sixth inning.  In the sixth with two outs, two Tritons would reach and Nick Geach came through with the two-out RBI for UCSD's first run.

In the final inning, the seventh, UCSD loaded the bases with no outs on two hit batsmen and a single.  Albitz was then hit with the bases juiced and got an RBI.  Robert Sedin grounded into a fielders choice for the tying RBI and Imeson grouned out for the go-ahead RBI, 4-3 UCSD.

UCSD's Trevor Decker pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing three hits and striking out two.  Knudson earned the save, his fifth of the year.  Daniel Simmons made the start for the Tritons.

UCSD is back in action next week when it hosts Cal State L.A. in CCAA action on Thursday, February 26.
