LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego women's tennis team battled but fell short to visiting Cal Baptist, 5-4, Wednesday afternoon. The Lancers won their 4th in a row and are currently ranked 10th in the NAIA. The loss leaves the Tritons with a record of 5-5.
The Tritons have fought hard this week despite injuries to their No. 1 and No. 2 players, Ina Dan and Kimmi Dao. Dao persevered to play doubles with Tessa Tan in the No. 3 spot to earn the team's sole doubles win, 8-5, against CBU.
In singles action, Taskeen Bains, Molly Sullens, and Natalie Varnay challenged the Lancers, taking each of their matches to three sets. Bains defeated Nawchali De Silva, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 for her second singles win in two days. Sullens fell short to Dunya Wren 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 while Varnay battled into the night almost pulling out a tough victory but falling to Barbara Oliveira 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
The Tritons play their third home match of the week this Friday, March 7 at 2 p.m. against CCAA opponent, Cal State LA. The Golden Eagles are 1-1 on the season.
