SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? The UC San Diego baseball team fell to Point Loma Nazarene by a 6-1 score on Tuesday afternoon at PETCO Park. The Tritons were no-hit through the first seven innings, before John Roth recorded a single up the middle. Matt Lawson got the Tritons on the board in the ninth, as he homered to left field. The Tritons did load the bases in the final frame, but the Sea Lions turned a game-ending double play. PLNU used strong pitching, as the Sea Lions entered the game with a team ERA of 3.28. UCSD falls to 33-19 overall. The Tritons are back in action with a four-game series against No. 5 Cal State L.A. The first two games will be at Triton Baseball Field on Thursday and Friday, with the series wrapping up at CSULA on Saturday. The Friday game at UCSD will be senior day for the Tritons, as UCSD will honor its seniors shortly before first pitch.
PLNU got on the board first as Kahohi Downing picked up an RBI on a ground out. With two gone, Kevin Campbell singled for an RBI and PLNU led 2-0 through two.
The Sea Lions's Jesse Gill hit a sac fly in the third for the 3-0 lead. PLNU added one more run in the inning to lead 4-0 through three.
The Tritons got two on with one out in the sixth on an error and hit batsmen. Garrett Imeson then hit a ball hard, but right at the thirdbase man, who doubled off the Triton runner to end the inning.
Leading off the eighth, John Roth got the Tritons' first hit, an infield hit up the middle. After Roth was caught stealing, with two outs, Bryan Silverman drew a walk. The final UCSD batter struck out to end the frame.
Leading off the UCSD ninth, Matt Lawson homered to left center, just to the right of the 357 sign, putting UCSD on the board, trailing 6-1. Matt Cantele and David Morehead hit back-to-back singles and Chris Franco walked to load the bases with still one out. A game ending double play ended the game with PLNU taking it 6-1.
