LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego baseball team used an all-around game to defeat Grand Canyon 14-2 on Friday afternoon at Triton Baseball Field.  UCSD hit four homeruns, two by Matt Lawson and one each from Bryan Silverman and Chris Franco.  The Tritons scored seven runs in the third inning and cruised to the win. 

Daniel Simmons went the distance for the complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out five.  GCU did not help itself by committing eight errors in the game.  The Tritons improve to 25-13, while the Antelopes drop to 19-15.

In the UCSD third, Tim Mort led off with a double to right and would score as Jonathan Erickson reached on a bunt single and advanced to third on a throwing error.  Vance Albitz then bunted for a base hit RBI and UCSD led 2-0.  With one out, Matt Lawson homered to left center for two runs and UCSD went ahead 4-0.  David Morehead then reached on an error and advanced to second on a passed ball.  Garrett Imeson then doubled, driving in Morehead for the 5-0 lead.  Chris Franco then tripled to center for an RBI, UCSD's sixth run of the inning.  UCSD scored its seventh run of the frame on an error, leading 7-0 through three.

With two outs in the UCSD sixth, Albitz reached on an error as two Tritons scored unearned runs and UCSD went ahead 9-0.

GCU got on the board in the sixth on an infield single by Matt Henne.

In the UCSD sixth, Chris Franco hit a two-run homerun to right, giving UCSD an 11-1 lead.  Bryan Silverman made it back-to-back homeruns, and UCSD led 12-1.

GCU scored a run in the seventh on a homerun by Silvestri.

UCSD's Lawson hit a two-run homerun in the seventh, his second of the game, giving the Tritons the 14-2 edge.

UCSD and GCU finish the quick series with a single game on Saturday.  First pitch is slated for 11:00 a.m. at Triton Baseball Field.
