SEASIDE, Calif. ? The UC San Diego baseball team defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 9-8 on Monday afternoon in a game that was a make-up game from the weekend. The win gives the Tritons the four-game series sweep and a third-place standing heading into a big weekend showdown at No. 12 Chico State, just two-games behind the Tritons. CCAA homerun leader Matt Cantele gave the Tritons a 9-7 lead with his 18th homerun of the season. The blast tied the single season homerun record at UCSD, was his fourth in four games and was measured to have traveled well over 500 feet. With the win, UCSD improves to 29-14, 18-6 CCAA, while Cal State Monterey Bay drops to 12-32, 7-25 CCAA.
Eric Abraham earned his second win of the series, improving to 3-0 this season. Derek Barham earned his sixth save of the year and Bryan Silverman also homered in the game. John Roth, Matt Lawson and Garrett Imeson had multiple hits to lead the offense.
The Tritons are back in action for four games at No. 12 Chico State on April 20-22.
