LA JOLLA, CALIF. - The UC San Diego softball team swept its Saturday afternoon doubleheader with Cal State Dominguez Hills, winning the first game 8-2 and the second in come-from-behind fashion, 7-6, in 8 innings at Triton Softball Field.  With the wins, the Tritons improve to 28-22 overall, 19-11 in CCAA play, while the Toros fall to 21-23 overall and 9-15 in conference action.

UCSD scored one run in the bottom of both the first and second innings in game one, with freshman Amanda Eliades driving in senior Brittni Carino with a double in the first and sophomore Allison May connecting on a solo home-run in the second.  UCSD would hold that 2-0 advantage until the top of the fourth, as the Toros tied things up with two runs on three hits in the inning.

The Tritons would retake the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning, loading the bases before junior Danielle Lukk drew an RBI walk and Carino singled in the second run of the inning.  After Lukk was called out for interference on hit through the left side of the infield, Jenny Maze connected on a grand slam, her 11^th home-run of the season, to take a 6-run lead and secure the victory.

Game two saw more clutch play from UCSD, as sophomore Megan Grace's double scored Allison May to tie the game at 5 in the bottom of the sixth.  After a scoreless 7^th, the Toros freshman Jessica Marlow scored after reaching base on an error in the 8^th.  The Tritons responded however, as Danielle Lukk's single with two outs and runners on second and third scored both the tying and winning run.

Lukk collected three hits, three RBIs, and one run in the game, while May and freshman Nicole Saari added two hits apiece.

Junior pitcher Melissa Ward started and went the distance in both contests, picking up her 21^st and 22^nd wins on the year, as well as her 26^th and 27^th complete games on the year.  Ward now ranks 2^nd in Triton history in both wins and complete games on the season.

Head coach Patti Gerckens and her squad returns to action Tuesday, hosting Cal State Bakersfield in the Tritons final CCAA home doubleheader on the season.  First pitch of game one is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Triton Softball Field.  UCSD will then travel to Chico State for a four-game series on Friday and Saturday and finish up their regular season with a non-conference doubleheader at home against Cal State San Marcos.
