Four Named to Softball Academic All-District

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Announced on Tuesday May 27, UC San Diego softball members Alexa DeMarse, Morgan Eng, Haley Garcia, and Jaden Hill were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Softball Team.

Alexa DeMarse (Folsom, Calif.) is an American Politics major with a 3.71 grade point average. The senior third baseman played 45 of 48 games, led the Tritons in home runs (6), and is in her second year as the Triton Athlete's Council Executive Board president.

Morgan Eng (Glendale, Calif.) is a Human Developmental Sciences major with a 3.62 grade point average. Playing 47 games in left field, the senior led the team and Big West with 33 stolen bases and was named All-Big West Second Team. She broke 100 career stolen bases and is 16th in the nation for career stolen bases at 114. 

Haley Garcia (Canyon Lake, Calif.) is a Communications major with a 3.51 grade point average. Garcia was the only Triton to start and play in all 48 games and had a team-high 44 hits and led the team with 7 sac bunts. 

Jaden Hill (Laguna Beach, Calif.) is earning her masters in climate science and policy with a 3.90 grade point average. The shortstop earned a spot on the All-Big West First Team after leading the Tritons in batting average (.319) and on base percentage (.398) along with the team's longest hitting streak of 7 games.

QUALIFICATIONS
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes swim and dive honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.

To be eligible, student-athletes must hold a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must have competed in five competitions or finish top eight at a conference meet. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.

ABOUT UC SAN DIEGO
After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West Conference in NCAA Division I. The 23-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions II and III and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors. A total of 83 Tritons have earned Academic All-America honors, while 38 have earned prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships. UC San Diego scholar-athletes exemplify the academic ideals of one of the world's preeminent institutions, graduating at an average rate of 91 percent, one of the highest rates among institutions at all divisions.
