FULLERTON, Calif. – UC San Diego fell to CSUN in the second round of the 2025 Big West Softball Championship after a late surge from the Matadors put them on top for a result of 4-2.
India Caldwell tossed another complete game for the Tritons allowing four runs on 8 hits. The right-hander tossed 6 strikeouts and walked one.
At the plate,
Zara Wasserman and
Jaden Hill both went 2-for-3 and
Alexis Jimenez earned 2 RBI and a run on her home run hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN struck early with a lone run in the first inning, and it wasn't until the third when the Tritons responded with a two-run inning.
A throwing error had
Morgan Eng become the leadoff runner and she was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Haley Garcia.
Alexis Jimenez stepped up to the plate with two outs on the board and went yard on the first pitch of the at-bat, 2-1

From the second inning to through the fifth,
India Caldwell kept the Matadors scoreless and got herself out of a loaded bases situation in the bottom of the third. In the sixth, CSUN hit a solo home run and a two-run home run to take the lead back at 4-2.
The Tritons' offense was unable to convert in the seventh as the final three outs were made.
