ROHNERT PARK, Calif. ? The UC San Diego baseball team lost the final game of the four-game series to Sonoma State by a 2-0 score on Sunday afternoon in Rohnert Park. Both teams would tally seven hits, but it was SSU, scoring two runs early. The Seawolves scored on a bases-loaded two-out walk in the first and added a single run in the third. UCSD's Nick Rodieck, Todd Gimenez and Derek Barham pitched well in relief, allowing one run in seven innings of work. The loss drops UCSD to 12-8, 4-4 CCAA, while Sonoma State improves to 12-4, 7-1 CCAA. The Tritons are back in action with a four-game series on March 9-11 at Triton Baseball Field when UCSD hosts the San Francisco State Gators.
UCSD could not take advantage of the few opportunities the SSU pitchers allowed. In the second inning, Garrett Imeson led off with a double, but was caught stealing. Imeson led off the fifth with a single, but SSU turned a double play, ending a threat. In the eighth inning, UCSD had one on with one out, but another double play ended the frame. The Tritons added two hits in the ninth, but could not muster a rally.
Scott Clement, Imeson and Matt Lawson recorded two hits apiece for UCSD in the loss.
