PHOENIX, Ariz. ? The UC San Diego baseball team fell to Grand Canyon 11-9 on Friday night at Brazell Stadium in Phoenix. The Tritons outhit the Antelopes 17-13, but were done in by GCU's Matt Henne who blasted three homeruns. UCSD's Garrett Imeson and John Roth had three hits apiece, while Matt Lawson, Scott Clement and Chris Franco each had two hits. After scoring three runs in the first, the Tritons fell behind 8-3 through five innings. UCSD chipped away with single runs in the seventh, eighth and two in the ninth, but could not pull out the win. UCSD drops to 3-3, while GCU improves to 2-3.
The ?Lopes tied the game at three in the bottom of the third on Henne's first homer of the evening, which was a two-run shot. GCU then batted around in the fourth and scored five runs while knocking out UCSD starter, Trevor Decker. With the score at 11-7 in the top of the ninth, the Tritons tried to make things interesting by scoring two runs, but Ben Corser came in to save the game for the ?Lopes and preserve the 11-9 victory. Brian Broderick got the victory for GCU and Trevor Decker took the loss for UCSD.
UCSD and Grand Canyon play a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch of the first game slated for 11:00 a.m. at Brazell Stadium.
