LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego baseball team swept Saturday's doubleheader against Cal Poly Pomona, winning the first game 12-4 and the second game 5-0. The wins give the Tritons the series win as UCSD improves to 11-5, 3-1 CCAA, while Cal Poly Pomona drops to 7-7, 1-3 CCAA. In the first game, David Morehead's three-run homerun capped a five-run fifth. UCSD would score four more in the sixth as Matt Lawson and Tim Mort each had two RBI. Daniel Simmons earned the win, allowing one run in 6.1 innings of work. In the second game, all of UCSD's runs were unearned. A two-out single by Chris Hom in the sixth inning broke the game open, driving in two-runs and giving UCSD a 3-0 lead. Michael Thomson earned the win, pitching a complete-game shutout.
Game One
Erickson reached as the leadoff man on an error in the fifth. He would then advance to second on a wild pitch. Erickson the took third on Vance Albitz's groundout to first. John Roth doubled down the left field line, giving the Tritons the first run at 1-0. Roth advanced to third on a wild pitch and Tim Mort walked to put runners on the corners. After Imeson walked, Roth came in to score on a wild pitch. Morehead then broke the game open with a three-run homerun to left, giving the Tritons a 5-0 lead, all runs unearned.
In the CPP sixth, the first two batters reached on a single and double. Greg Johnston then recorded an RBI on a groundout, putting CPP on the board, 5-1.
Bryan Silverman led off the UCSD sixth with a single and stole second. Erickson then walked and the runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. With one out, Roth was intentionally walked to load the bases. Mort reached on a fielders' choice RBI and the Tritons worked the double-steal to score another run and lead 7-1. Lawson then doubled to center for an RBI, driving in Mort as the outfielder lost the ball in the sun. Imeson the tripled to deep center, giving UCSD the 9-1 lead.
With one out in the seventh, CPP loaded the bases. Andres Fernandez hit a sac fly to right for an RBI, making the score 9-2 UCSD. CPP scored two more in the inning and trailed 9-4 through six and a half.

UCSD would go on to win the first game 12-4.
Game Two
The Broncos put two runners on with one out in the first, but UCSD turned a 4-6-3 double play, ending the inning.
In the Triton first, Roth was hit and Mort reached on an error. With the bases loaded, Chris Franco drew a walk, driving in UCSD's first run to lead 1-0 after one.
In the UCSD second, Mort singled through the middle and Imeson sac bunted Mort to second.
In the UCSD sixth, Imeson reached on an error and advanced to second on Morehead's sac bunt. With two outs, Chris Hom came through with a single, putting UCSD on top 2-0. Vance Albitz then added another two out hit, driving in two, giving UCSD a 4-0 lead. A CPP error scored UCSD's fourth run of the inning to give the Tritons a 5-0 edge.
Michael Thomson retired the side in the seventh, earning the complete game shutout.
UCSD is back in action on Friday, March 2 when it plays the first of a four-game series at Sonoma State. First pitch on Friday is set for 2:00 p.m. in Rohnert Park.
