POMONA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego baseball team evened the four-game series at one apiece with a 2-1 victory over Cal Poly Pomona on Friday afternoon at Scolinos Field. A one-out single by Garrett Imeson in the top of the seventh proved to be the difference maker as Imeson's hit drove in Matt Lawson for the go-ahead run. Trevor Decker pitched his second consecutive gem, going seven innings and allowing just five hits and one run, while striking out four. Decker improves to 2-1 on the season. The four game series will conclude on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader at Triton Baseball Field. First pitch of the first game is slated for an 11:00 a.m. start.
UCSD generated a run in the first as David Morehead hit a one-out single. Morehead would then advance to second on a wild pitch and steal third base. Lawson then hit a foul ball out to left field, deep enough to score Morehead and give the Tritons first blood at 1-0.
CPP tied the game in the bottom of the third after a leadoff triple and an RBI groundout.
After Imeson's RBI single in the seventh, CPP still had opportunities.
In the CPP eighth, the Broncos tried to put together a two-out rally. A single, followed by two hit batsmen, loaded the bases. Eric Abraham came on for the Tritons in relief and recorded the final out of the inning on a pop out to second base.
Abraham then retired the ninth, earning his second save of the season.
