LA JOLLA, Calif. — The UC San Diego men's rowing team gets its 2025-26 season back to action this weekend at the Redwood Shores Invitational, hosted by California.
The Tritons will send First and Second Varsity 8 crews to compete against Stanford, California, and Oregon State. Action can be followed with
Here Now live scoring.
The races against Stanford and Cal are set for Saturday, while the match-ups against Oregon State will be on the water Sunday morning.
The University of San Diego and Santa Clara will also be taking part in the event, but UC San Diego will not be going up against the Toreros or Broncos.
In the January 2026 For Stars Network Way too Early national poll, UC San Diego was ranked No. 23 among Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Division I programs. California was tabbed No. 1 and was followed by Washington in second and Harvard in third. Stanford filled the No. 4 spot and Oregon State was 20th.
UC San Diego has one competition under its belt this season. In early November, the Tritons raced in the San Diego Fall Classic on Mission Bay. The varsity four boat led the way with a first-place finish in the Men's Open 4+ event. Second varsity four took third in that same event. In the Men's Open 8+ competition, the Tritons' varsity eight boat placed second. The second varsity eight boat was fourth.
This will be the Tritons' second year in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). In 2025, the Tritons qualified two varsity eight boats for the IRA National Championship.Â
The 2026 IRA National Championship Regatta is slated for May 29-31 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. It will be the 123rd running of the event.
