LA JOLLA, Calif.— Seven members of the UC San Diego baseball program received All-Big West honors, as announced Tuesday by the conference. Three Tritons earned First Team accolades.

Matthew Dalquist earned an All-Big West Second Team nod.

UC San Diego's seven honors match the program's highest total since joining the Big West in 2021. The Tritons also had seven players recognized in 2023 after securing the conference title. It is the first All-Big West award for all seven scholar athletes.

J.C. ALLEN » ALL-BIG WEST FIRST TEAM
Third baseman
J.C. Allen was a standout in his first season in La Jolla, starting 48 of the Tritons' 51 games and finishing second on the team with 14 home runs. Allen led the team in runs batted in (53) and doubles (16), with both numbers ranking fourth in the Big West at the end of the regular season. The junior recorded a .304 batting average and .394 on base percentage, with a .620 slugging percentage good enough for fourth in the conference as well.

Allen was red hot down the final stretch of the regular season, collecting 21 RBI in the last 10 games and recording at least one in nine of the 10 contests. Allen also knocked six homers in the last six games to end the season, including the final long ball of the season to set the UC San Diego single season team record with 80 home runs.

GABE CAMACHO » ALL-BIG WEST FIRST TEAM
Sophomore transfer
Gabe Camacho made an immediate impact in his first season with the Tritons, starting 25 games at first base before transitioning to the Tritons' designated hitter for the final 16 games while battling through a thumb injury. Despite his injury, Camacho maintained his exceptional numbers for the season, finishing third in batting average (.307) and in slugging percentage (.546).Â

Camacho ranked sixth in the conference with a .458 on base percentage, aided by his 24 hit-by-pitch free passes that ranked second in the Big West and 16th nationally. Camacho finished first on the team in triples (3), second in runs scored (41), third in total bases (89) and doubles (12), and fourth in hits (50), RBI (41) and home runs (7).

MICHAEL CROSSLAND » ALL-BIG WEST FIRST TEAM
Centerfielder
Michael Crossland had a record-setting sophomore season, leading the team in most statistical categories. The sophomore was tops on the team in batting average (.341), slugging percentage (.644), hits (70), home runs (15), runs scored (49), total bases (132) and games started (50) and second in doubles (15), RBI (44) and stolen bases (6). At the conclusion of the regular season, Crossland ranked first in the Big West in slugging percentage and home runs, second in total bases, fourth in OPS (1.079), seventh in runs scored, eighth in hits and 11th in batting average and RBI.Â

Crossland set the Tritons' Division I record with 15 homers, which is tied for second all-time in the UC San Diego single season record book. Crossland was also responsible for hitting the record-breaking 79th home run in the final game of the season to help the Tritons' break the all-time single season team home run record. UC San Diego finished the year with 80 home runs in 50 games.Â

MATTHEW DALQUIST » ALL-BIG WEST SECOND TEAM
Starting pitcher
Matthew Dalquist had a strong season as the Tritons' Friday starter, making 14 starts with a record of 6-5. The right-hander ranked first in the Big West and 15th nationally in walks allowed per nine innings (1.44), fourth in the conference (29th nationally) in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.15) and third in the Big West (11th nationally) in games started (14). Dalquist finished third in the conference in innings pitched (81.1), sixth in total wins (6), eighth in batters struck out looking (20), 13th in total strikeouts (67) and 14th in earned run average (4.43).

Dalquist earned the second Big West Pitcher of the Week award of his career on March 10, after pitching a career-long 7.2 innings of shutout baseball, allowing just two hits with no walks and eight strikeouts against Cal State Bakersfield. He faced just three batters over the minimum into the top of the eighth inning and retired the final 14 batters he faced in order.

ANTHONY POTESTIO » ALL-BIG WEST HONORABLE MENTION
Shortstop
Anthony Potestio was stellar in his sophomore season for UC San Diego, starting 40 games for the Tritons. Potestio finished second on the team in batting average (.323) and on base percentage (.450) as the Tritons' leadoff man, ranking fifth in slugging percentage (.476). Potestio led the team in walks (28) and stolen bases (9) and finished third in hits (53) and runs scored (40), and fifth in RBI (30). He tallied six doubles, two triples and five home runs.

ALEX LEOPARD » ALL-BIG WEST HONORABLE MENTION
Right fielder
Alex Leopard was another standout junior transfer, starting 46 games for the Tritons. Leopard finished third on the team in home runs (10) and RBI (42) and fourth in slugging percentage (.500) and total bases (88). He recorded 43 hits, including 11 doubles and triples, and finished with 38 runs scored.Â

SPENCER SEID » ALL-BIG WEST HONORABLE MENTION
Relief pitcher
Spencer Seid was a reliable weapon out of the Tritons' bullpen, making 16 appearances with a 3-1 record and a team-high three saves. The left-hander was second on the team with 56.1 innings pitched and led the Tritons with 71 strikeouts, which ranked ninth in the Big West. Seid also ranked second in the conference with 29 batters struck out looking, fifth in hits allowed (51), sixth in doubles allowed (9), eighth in opponent batting average (.239).
Seid ranked fifth in the Big West and 41st nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (11.34). He matched the Tritons' all-time record with 13 strikeouts against No. 23 Cincinnati on March 1, pitching a career-long 7.0 innings and allowing one run on six hits with no walks to earn his first Big West Pitcher of the Week nod.
