GOLD RIVER, Calif. — The inaugural MPSF Men's Rowing Championship wrapped on Sunday, with the UC San Diego varsity eight crew finishing fifth to secure the program an automatic bid to the IRA National Championship. The Tritons won the varsity eight petite final to earn their spot at nationals, which is scheduled for May 30-June 1.

Second varsity eight finished sixth, just .370 seconds behind Santa Clara at the top of that petite final. The Tritons' third varsity eight boat also placed sixth.

Races were held on Lake Natoma. Varsity eight and second varsity eight both took third in their heat races on Saturday, while third varsity eight only raced once in the grand final on Sunday.

The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) announced men's rowing as the conference's 15th sponsored sport in December. UC San Diego is one of eight inaugural members, joining California, Gonzaga, Oregon State, San Diego, Santa Clara, Stanford and Washington.

The Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA), the governing body of Division I collegiate men's rowing, will hold the 2025 IRA National Championship on the Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey. The competition runs May 30-June 1, and the Tritons will be competing for the eighth-consecutive time.
