SAN DIEGO — The lone home event of the season for UC San Diego men's rowing featured three varsity eight boats in action this Saturday and Sunday at the San Diego Crew Classic. The highlight of the weekend came on Sunday as the second varsity boat won its grand final to claim the Marine Corps 2V Cup.

The 2,000-meter course was in Mission Bay. Prelim races were on Saturday, with all finals held on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The V8+ boat was one of 15 competing in the Active&Fit Now Cal Cup. The Tritons were in heat two on Saturday, winning by 11 seconds (6:01.245) to book a spot in the grand final. Sunday's championship race saw the Tritons complete the course in 6:04.539 to finish third behind Cal and Gonzaga.

Saturday's prelim race for the 2V8+ competition was only for lane assignments in the grand final, but the Tritons made a statement anyways by winning the lone heat of the day with a time of 6:10.039. The boat's strong run continued on Sunday as the Tritons came home in 6:13.121 to win the Marine Corps Cup by over five seconds.

The 3V8+ boat only raced once on Sunday in a dual with Gonzaga. UC San Diego took second with a time of 6:44.369.
