QUOTABLE
"The team is incredibly excited to race this weekend at a new venue and new addition to our previous years racing schedule," UC San Diego head men's rowing coach
Peter Simeone said. "We have a great opportunity to compete against two conference opponents in Gonzaga and Santa Clara, and a future conference opponent in Oregon State. We're lucky to have a second opportunity to line up next to OSU, following the Lake Las Vegas Invitational."
WELCOME PETER SIMEONE
Heading into his first season leading the squad,
Peter Simeone takes over the reins leading the men's rowing program after serving as the team's lead assistant last season.
A former competitive collegiate rower at Northeastern University where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering and was a competitive member of Pennsylvania Athletic Club's Intermediate and Pre-Elite teams.
Simeone went on to spend several years in the United States Navy as a Naval Special Warfare Candidate, while also working with the Naval Special Warfare Continuum of Leadership Development program alongside Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL instructors analyzing teams and individuals.
Beginning in 2017, Peter went on to spend two years as an assistant coach for the San Diego Rowing Club before taking on the head coaching role in 2019. With the rowing club, Simeone develops, implements and manages the Varsity Men's training plan to compete at the highest level for junior athletes.
The Tritons' rowing program put together a historic academic year in 2022-23 with Simeone helping to lead the way as UC San Diego went undefeated in the spring and qualified for the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship Regatta for the first time since 2021.
