No. 14 Tritons Host No. 11 UCSB Saturday, Harper Cup and Senior Day Sunday

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 14th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team heads into its final weekend of regular season play at home with a Saturday Big West matchup against No. 11 UC Santa Barbara followed by a quick turnaround to face No. 24 San Diego State in the annual Harper Cup on Sunday.

Both matches start at 12 p.m. at Canyonview Aquatic Center in La Jolla.

The Tritons are coming off a win over CSUN and looking to extend their win streak as they prepare for the  Big West Championship next week.

Sunday's tilt against the Aztecs is a big day for the Tritons, doubling as both Senior Day as well as the Harper Cup.

UC San Diego will be recognizing three seniors - Kayla Peacock, Carson Rampelberg, and Madison Solares - for their accomplishments and success in and out of the pool.

UC San Diego has won the past six Harper Cup games with last year's matchup ending up in a 13-8 victory for the Tritons.

The Tritons enter the weekend at 11-16 overall and 3-3 in the Big West, while the Gauchos stand at 18-9 overall with a 2-4 mark in conference play.

The first 250 fans into Sunday's game will get a free Triton rubber duck. In addition, the team will be signing autographs following the game.

Tickets for the games are available through the Triton Box Office.

WHY THE TRITONS?
The Triton is described as the offspring of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a demigod of the sea with a lower part of the body like that of a fish. It is known as a mighty and fierce sea warrior. Given UC San Diego's close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and its connections with the world-famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Triton became our mascot in 1964.

 About UC San Diego Athletics
After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West in NCAA Division I. The 23-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions III and II and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors. A total of 83 Tritons have earned Academic All-America accolades, while 38 have received prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships. UC San Diego scholar-athletes exemplify the academic ideals of one of the world's preeminent institutions, graduating at an average rate of 90 percent, the highest rate among NCAA Division I and II institutions.
